Privacy Policy

Last updated: 25 October 2026

This privacy policy explains how MD Carpets (“we”, “us”) collects and uses personal information when you visit mdcarpets.co.uk or contact us about carpet and flooring work. We are committed to handling your information fairly and in line with UK data protection law, including the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018.

Who we are

MD Carpets is a family-run carpet and flooring supplier and fitter based in Bath, run by Mark Dunscombe. We are the controller of the personal information described in this policy. You can contact us about it at any time:

Information we collect

Information you give us. When you use our quote form, phone, email or message us, we collect the details you choose to share. Through the website form this is your name, phone number, email address, postcode or town, the type of flooring you are interested in, your preferred visit time and your message. If we go on to measure, quote or fit, we will also hold your address and details of the work.

Information collected automatically. When you browse the website, cookies and similar technologies may collect information such as your IP address, browser and device type, the pages you visit, how you arrived at the site (for example from a Google advert) and actions such as clicking our phone number or email address or sending the quote form. Analytics and advertising cookies are only used in line with the choices you make in our cookie banner.

How we use your information

  • To reply to your enquiry, arrange a samples visit and measure, and prepare a quote
  • To carry out and manage any work you ask us to do, including invoicing
  • To understand how visitors use the website so we can improve it
  • To measure how well our Google advertising works, for example how many enquiries come from an advert
  • To keep the website secure and protect it from spam and misuse
  • To meet our legal, tax and accounting obligations

We will not add you to a marketing mailing list or send you marketing emails unless you have asked us to.

Our lawful bases

  • Steps before a contract, and the contract itself: when you ask for a quote or we carry out work for you.
  • Legitimate interests: responding to general enquiries, running and securing our website, and preventing spam.
  • Consent: for analytics and advertising cookies. You can change or withdraw your consent at any time using the cookie settings button on the website.
  • Legal obligation: keeping financial records we are required to keep.

Cookies and similar technologies

We use a cookie banner (provided by CookieYes) so you can choose which non-essential cookies to allow. Depending on your choices, the website may use:

  • Strictly necessary cookies, which are needed for the site, its security and your cookie preferences to work.
  • Analytics cookies from Google Analytics, which tell us how visitors use the site. These are set through Google Tag Manager by the Conversios plugin.
  • Advertising cookies from Google Ads, which let us see when someone who clicked one of our adverts goes on to call, email or send an enquiry.

Some features load content from other companies, which may set their own cookies or receive your IP address: Cloudflare Turnstile (spam protection on our forms), Google Maps (the map on our contact page), Google Fonts, and our Instagram feed (images from Instagram, owned by Meta). You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings.

Who we share your information with

We do not sell your personal information. We only share it where needed with:

  • Our website hosting provider and the plugins that run the website, including the form plugin that stores a copy of enquiries in our website database
  • Google, which provides our email (enquiries are sent to our Gmail inbox), Google Analytics and Google Ads
  • Cloudflare, for spam protection on our forms
  • Our accountant and HMRC, where required for tax and accounting
  • Anyone else where we are required to by law

Some of these providers, such as Google, may process information outside the UK. Where they do, they use legally recognised safeguards such as the UK International Data Transfer Addendum or standard contractual clauses.

How long we keep your information

We keep enquiry details only for as long as we need them to deal with your enquiry and any work that follows. If you become a customer, we keep records of the work and invoices for as long as the law requires for tax and accounting purposes. Analytics and advertising data are kept for the periods set in our Google Analytics and Google Ads accounts.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you have the right to:

  • Ask for a copy of the personal information we hold about you
  • Ask us to correct information that is wrong or incomplete
  • Ask us to delete your information
  • Ask us to restrict or object to how we use it
  • Ask for your information to be transferred to another organisation
  • Withdraw consent at any time, where we rely on consent

To use any of these rights, email info@mdcarpets.co.uk. We will reply within one month. If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113, but we would appreciate the chance to put things right first.

Keeping your information secure

We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your information, including an encrypted (HTTPS) website, security software and spam protection on our forms. No method of sending information over the internet is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
