Eco Friendly Carpet & Underlay

MD Carpets is continually striving to reduce our impact on the environment. We are now stocking a range of Eco Friendly Carpet and Underlay. Read more about our products below.

Flooring takes up more square footage than almost any other product in your home. As consumers we have become increasingly aware of our environmental impact and responsibilities, and more and more people are considering the carbon footprint of their flooring choice.

Issues such as safety, renewability, embodied energy, durability, off-gassing and recyclability come up repeatedly.
Carpet is soft, comforting, stylish, warm and has excellent sound-absorbing properties. Whilst it is less resource intensive than quarrying most stone or firing ceramic tiles, it can be relatively short-lived compared to the other building materials used to construct your home.
However, carpet is making some serious advancements in sustainability, and we are proud to support them.
Eco-friendly carpet and recycled underlay

Environmental breakthrough

Until recently, most carpet has been made from non-recycled materials and has also been non-recyclable at the end of its life. So much so that millions of tons of it is buried in landfills each year.

Green Underlay

However, breakthroughs in production have allowed manufacturers to create carpet fibres made from recycled plastic drinks bottles (PET). It is a genuinely greener choice. Many public buildings have used PET carpet in entrance halls and other high-traffic areas, with minimal maintenance and excellent results. PET fibres are naturally stain-resistant, do not need the chemical treatments used on most nylon carpets, and retain their colour well against sunlight and cleaning.

Whilst there has been advancement in carpet production, underlay has remained a problem, until now. We are pleased to introduce the new award winning non-woven underlays from SPRINGBOND.
